FAO Joined at the International Conference on Food Security

Under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Fuad bin Jaafar bin mohammed al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Oman, Muscat hosted a two-day International Conference on Food Security, Agriculture sustainability and Pulses.

The conference was attended by senior government officials, researchers, consultants and traders, and was marked by a message from Food and Agriculture Organization Representative in Oman, Ms. Nora Ourabah Haddad, and by the presence of Food and Agriculture Organization special ambassador for the International Year of Pulses within the Near East Ms. Magy Habib.

At the inaugural ceremony, H E Dr Sajwani said, “This conference comes in response to the united nations declaration of 2016 as Year of Pulses, and Food and Agriculture Organization’s efforts to boost awareness on the importance of pulses as a part of sustainable food production aimed towards food security and nutrition.”

 H E Dr Sajwani demanded giving a good attention to agro industry, sustainable agriculture and also the development of food industries.

 Ms. Nora Ourabah Haddad, delivered a video message to the audience, reminding them that “the IYP may be a nice chance to decision the attention on the contribution of pulses to food and nutrition security also on alleviate hunger and rural economic condition.”
